RNFBC
RNFBC is proud to announce that a record number of 274 bursaries worth $276,000 were given out in the most recent award cycle.
While this was a record of giving for the Foundation, the number of applicants far exceeded what we were able to award. This demand demonstrates the pressing need to support both students hoping to become nurses and nurses who are furthering their education in order to meet the requirements of the health care system.
The following excerpts from letters received from successful applicants show how appreciated the awards are.
I am currently a third year nursing student at University of Northern British Columbia. I hope to become a nurse, a career I look forward to because I want to help people through some of their most vulnerable moments. Especially in this year of crisis we need more nurses… As of now I am working as a health care aide. I will be able to complete my education without interruption with the help of this bursary. All I can give you is my word that I will make its value well worth every penny. Thank you for your contribution to my post-secondary education.
Joy Bacud – RNFBC Undergraduate Bursary
I am a second-year master’s student in the Nurse Practitioner Program at UBC in Vancouver. I hope to work in primary care upon graduation next year and be a primary care provider to some of the many people who are without one.
I am so grateful to have received this bursary through RNFBC. I have not been able to work much since school started, and this bursary alleviates some financial strain without the stress of repayment. Losing two years of income to complete my master’s degree was not a decision I made lightly, and although it has been tough, this bursary provides me with encouragement.
Thank you again for providing this bursary. Your commitment to the education of future nurses in British Columbia is commendable.

Our challenge next year is to exceed what we were able to award in 2022 but we are confident that our generous donors will come through once again. We thank these donors and hope that more will learn about the good work of the Foundation and enable us to increase our reach.
